International chemistry olympiad England full set of medals

41st International Chemistry Olympiad held this year, the 18th-27th July in England. Olympiad organized by the Cambridge and Oxford Universities.
The race conditions were traditional. First, students had to demonstrate their skills in practice (organic synthesis, Complexometric titration and surfactant properties of the solutions by measuring the electrical conductivity). In theory, this time in the six functions. The text of the questions and answer sheets were quite large, forming a combined total of 36 pages. Tasks included the determination of Avogadro's number of different historical methods, the formation of molecular hydrogen in space, total protein-folding kinetics and thermodynamics off, and the drugs and the synthesis of complex compounds epoksiidvaikude chemistry.

The organizing was very good and fun addition to the intense work of the students spent their free time visiting museums, playing cricket and learned knight modern martial arts. Traditionally, our Olympiad team took care of the appearance of the Baltika Group. Yoga training was widely supported by the Estonian gas, Silmet, TBD Biodiscovery.

The appeal went quite well for us. The task became one of the most points to the Kadi - 4 points. The second task was the solution after a thorough discussion of the authors Glebile to one point. Jim's work was written very well, although there were some errors in solutions and the result was not really anything to appeal.

Аппеляция прошла весьма успешно. Больше всех, за одно из заданий, 4 балла получила Кади. В другом задании, после продолжительного обсуждения, Глебу добавили a балл. Работа Таави была безупречно написана, хотя и содержала ошибки в решениях, поэтому аппелировать было не к чему.
Проверяющие были доброжелательны и, вероятно, желали поскорее закончить работу. Только на проверку работ, за день до аппеляции, у них ушло более часов 15. Всего же было 6 задач на теоретическом 3 задания и на практическом турах. Среди теоретических задач были задачи по общей химии (1-ая - нахождение числа Авогадро мя способами 3) и по физической химии (2-ая про кинетику образования в межзвездном пространстве H2), по физической биохимии (3-ья по термодинамике сворачивания белка) , два по органической химии (4-ая про синтез Ампренавира и 5 ая про синтез эпоксидных полимеров), по химии комплексных соединений (6-ая про комплексы синтезированные Вернером).
1-ая задача не отличалась оригинальностью, необходимо было определить число Авогадро 3 мя различными способами, и все сводилось к указаниям что-то написать, нарисовать или рассчитать. Для решения 2-ой следовало решить математически системы уравнений в том числе и кубических. Благодаря изюминке в виде сравнения двух различных моделей образования водорода 2-ая задача была, пожалуй, наиболее целостной и интересной. 3-ья скрывала рутину термодинамических расчетов за биохимическим процессом сворачивания белка. Решение 5 ой задачи требовало базовых знаний органической химии - чуть выше школьной программы, например, продукты можно было установить по данным 1H ЯМР спектров исходя из симметрии молекул. Творческий подход необходимо было проявить в решении ой и 4-6-ой задач: синтез Ампенавира состоял из простых реакций с весьма нестандартными реагентами, в 6-ой спрашивалось сравнить структуры комплексов металлов с координационным числом шесть - блестящий пример химической комбинаторики, а также нарисовать энергетические диаграммы и указать их заселенность с учетом магнитного момента и структуры комплекса.

Ответил скромного вида британец: "О! Да, это Б двенадцать "(на английском). Пожалуй, теперь William Jones знает довольно много о нашей команде, ведь он провел за разговором с нами довольно много времени. Кроме того, он пожелал нам удачи.
Другое интересное событие касается человека открывавшего церемонию. Мы пожали руку президенту RCS (королевское общество химиков), Brian Johnson -а! Таким образом, мы пожали руку человека, который пожал руку человека, который пожал руку человека, который пожал руку Marie Sklodowska Curie ! Надеемся, что мы получили достаточно (радио) активности. Brian к тому же сидел в кресле Charles Darwin -а ... Кроме того, кто-то сказал нам, что каждый вдох содержит две молекулы, которыми дышал Isaac Newton . И этот ряд можно еще продолжать.
